There were some missing parts to the delivery story, so here goes:

• Once the nurse got Amy hooked up to all the equipment, we found out she was having contractions every 5-6 minutes. This came as news to Amy! The nurse kept asking if she felt that, and Amy said 'no'. Amy kept asking the nurse if that was one, and the nurse would say 'no, but there was one about 3 minutes ago, did you feel it?'. The nurse told Amy there was a good chance she would have been admitted that day anyway based on her contractions.

• When Caleb was born, there were two nurses that were taking care of him. They held him up for us to see right away, then they laid him down on the table to quickly clean him off before they let us hold him for the first time. The first nurse lifted him upright off the table while the second nurse turned her back on them to get something off another table. At this point, Caleb peed for the first time, on the nurse's back! Caleb later peed in the nursery under the heat lamp, all over the floor and bassinette he was in. Since we brought him home, he's only peed once while changing a diaper, and Amy was ready for him.

• There was a shortage of rooms in the maternity ward, which is why we were kept in the labor and delivery room for several hours after Caleb was born. When they finally needed the room for another baby, they moved us into the tiniest room in the ward. We shared the room with a very nice hispanic couple (non-english speaking). We were all very considerate of each other, and tried to be as quiet as possible. One of the nurses told us they were supposed to check out that day, and as soon as they did, we would probably be moved into another more spacious room. Apparently the doctor on call that day typically makes her rounds around 6 pm, and no one could check out until the doctor cleared them. This proved to be the case, and we later heard that 6 babies were discharged that night, which freed up several rooms! We ended up in a nice large room, and had it to ourselves until just a few hours before we checked out on Friday. As a side note, when the doctor came in to check out our hispanic roommates, she asked them what kind of birth control they were going to use to make sure they didn't have another baby 9 months from now. This was all done with every spanish word the doctor could think of, which wasn't very many. There was a lot of 'muchas' thrown out at one point, maybe even a 'condomita', not sure how offensive that was. (Ok, she didn't really say 'condomita', but she did say 'muchas' about three times in a row!)
